Towards Confident Detection of Prostate Cancer Using High Resolution Micro-ultrasound

MOTIVATION: Detection of prostate cancer during transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy is challenging. The highly heterogeneous appearance cancer, presence ultrasound artefacts, and noise all contribute to these difficulties. Recent advancements in high-frequency imaging - micro-ultrasound have drastically increased the capability tissue at high resolution. Our aim investigate development a robust deep learning model specifically for micro-ultrasound-guided biopsy. For be clinically adopted, key challenge design solution that can confidently identify while from coarse histopathology measurements samples introduce weak labels. METHODS: We use dataset images acquired 194 patients, who underwent train using co-teaching paradigm handle labels, together with an evidential method uncertainty estimation. evaluate performance our relevant metric accuracy vs. confidence. RESULTS: achieves well-calibrated estimation predictive area under curve 88 $$\%$$ . combination yields significantly better than either alone. also provide detailed comparison against state-of-the-art
